Jiminy Peak Mountain Resort is off to an early start, opening its doors this weekend. YNN's Madeleine Rivera was there for their first day of the season.

HANCOCK, Ma. -- "This is actually pretty chill because there isn't snow on the ground, but they made snow for skiers and snowboarders," said Jordyn Goodrich, who skis at the Jiminy Peak Mountain Resort.

Hundreds came out for opening day at Jiminy Peak.

"It feels good to run through the snow a few times," said Goodrich.

Jiminy has been making snow over the past few days.

"It's really doing pretty good. We wish we would've gotten one more night of snow-making to really bury the lower half of the mountain. It's a little thin in places. But, everyone's enjoying it," said Paul Maloney, Vice President of Jiminy Peak.

"We kind of came out just for fun. Get some time on snow, so, it was fun, it was really good," said John Sanderson, member of the Williams College ski team.

The warm weather didn't stop the skiers and the snowboarders from coming out and enjoying the day. Maloney said they've had a constant flow of visitors. About 800 people have come so far.

"It's a good test to the equipment. It does set the base. And, it gets everybody enthused. And, after last year, I think creating early enthusiasm is good," said Maloney.

Last year, Jiminy opened in early December and closed in late March- making it one of the resort's shortest seasons. Maloney said they might stay open for next week, too, if the weather permits.
