Funeral services were held for Tonette Thomas, 20, the young woman killed last week in a stabbing on Myrtle Avenue in Albany. Lori Chung spoke with the family and has more.

ALBANY, N.Y. -- Through tears and heartbreak, family and friends tried to hold on to their best memories of Tonette Thomas.

Parents Dorothy Carter and Anthony Thomaas say they’ll remember, "Her smile and the joy. We were blessed to have her.”

Carter and Thomas bid farewell to their daughter, along with hundreds of other mourners who gathered at Wilborn Temple in Albany to pay their respects to the 20-year-old.

"I didn't realize how many friends she had until today," said Thomas.

Tonette was stabbed to death last week at her Myrtle Avenue home when her sister got into an argument ex-boyfriend Michael Anderson. Police say Anderson went on a rampage, stabbing the sisters and another relative who lived in the home.

"We hope he gets what he deserves, that's all I can say. And it's in God's hand and the law's hands," said Jessica Sprattley, Tonette’s aunt.

The service was not about the tragic way she died, but about all the things that made her special and how they'll hold her in their hearts.

"My sister is very well loved and I love her," said N’a-Je Sprattley.

"As they look at me, they'll see her always in memory because she looks just like me," said Thomas.
