SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- A little more than a dozen teachers from the Schenectady City School District earned high honors.

A ceremony took place honoring New York State teachers who earned certification from the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards. Fourteen Schenectady teachers are among this year's group.

Educators say it is about raising the bar and investing in their students.

"The way I look at my students as learners. The way I look at subjects that I teach. The way I monitor my students and the progress I hope they obtain. It is no longer just about progress but the academic standard we need them to make. How we look at every aspect of our teaching and instruction, in a way that will further the development of students that are in our class each day," said second grade teacher Susan Alviene.

In New York State, more than 155 teachers have earned this certification. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
