HYDE PARK, N.Y. -- Rescue teams made their way to the Hudson River to find two men missing. A canoe capsized near the Rodgers Point Boat Club early Friday morning.
Three people were onboard. One was able to swim ashore, but police still have been unable to find Barrett Raymond of Hyde Park and Baylin Coddington of Millbrook.
Police say when the canoe capsized, the water temperature was 48 degrees and at first, all three men tried to brave the frigid waters.
"All three hung onto that capsize until one realized that it was entirely too cold to stay in the water and he was going to swim to shore," said Hyde Park Police Chief Eric Paolilli.
Emergency responders spent all of Friday searching for the two others who were unable to get to safety. Crews canvassed beaches closely and the Hudson River within a three mile radius of where the incident happened. Search efforts ended, though, at night fall.
"It becomes too dangerous to have assets in the woods or in the water after dark," said Paolilli.
