ALBANY, N.Y. -- Volunteers turned out to make sure Albany's homeless had a hot meal and a little Christmas cheer.

The Capital City Rescue Mission served up some 3,000 meals this year to the less fortunate. Everybody involved, whether they're serving up meals in the dining room or packing food to be delivered, says they wouldn't want to be anywhere else for Christmas.

"Well, this has become kind of a family tradition for us and I think it's much more rewarding to come to help other people instead of getting gifts by the tree," said volunteer Emily Hollender.

"Oh yes. This is a very festive event and this is our family. The greater homeless family and needy. They're here for the holidays. Just like going to grandma's, this is their place," said Rev. Perry Jones.

Around 150 volunteers turned out this year to help serve.

Pastor Jones says the annual dinner takes nearly a month of planning and the generous donations of countless others.
