Christmas has officially come and gone, but that doesn't mean the holiday shopping is over. In fact, it's still one of the busiest times of the year. YNN's Vince Gallagher has more.
CAPITAL REGION, N.Y. -- "We had to return my brother's jeans because they were too small," Tess Boilings said.
‘Tis the season for making returns and taking advantage of post-Christmas sales.
"I got something for Christmas that I didn't want, so I pretty much brought it back to Game Stop over here and I'm going to get a new game," said Kevin Durante.
Stores were making deals in full swings, hoping customers will use their new gift cards and make returns, just like one who was returning an outfit.
"And I really didn't like it, it was not even in my size and I didn't like it, so I just returned back," said Maleigha Tremain.
But even though there are many returns, that's not necessarily a bad thing. In fact, even though the merchandise comes back, the buck doesn't always stop there
“It's actually doubled, so because we do so many returns, but on top of tha,t those returns then generate into more sales because it's not so much they didn't want something from Best Buy, it's just they didn't want the specific thing they got," said Best Buy Store Manager Michael Feldman.
Gift cards are also a safe bet for the gift giver and for the retailer, when it comes to ringing up more sales.
"Fifty dollar, fifteen dollar and eleven dollar gift card," Deven Hotaling said.
"Just Christmas money, you know, people not knowing what to buy me, so they give me the money to buy myself," Kurtis Kucera said.
Others were looking to add on to what they already had, in this case, an android tablet.
"So I'm just getting a wireless router that needs to work from the android," Gina Scholl said.
Holiday sales were only up a bit from last year, so days like this can still help.
Feldman said, "We’ve got a lot of gift card redemption. We've been selling gift cards. That perfect gift when you're not positive what to get someone, they all come in and those will get used up in the next couple of days, so we'll still see a bit of heavy traffic."
And there's only one thing left to do after a busy day like this.
"We're going to get something to eat," Boilings said.
Not only is December 26th traditionally a busy shopping day, the National Retail Federation predicts the day after Christmas will remain among the top five shopping days of the year.
