ALBANY, N.Y. -- Police have released the name of the driver accused of nearly striking an officer with his pickup truck and leading police on a chase on I-90.
According to Albany police, officers were responding to a complaint on Clinton Avenue around 11 p.m. Sunday when a pickup truck driven by Anthony Vergura sped by and almost hit an officer with his plow.
Officers caught up with the vehicle and activated their emergency lights and sirens, but the vehicle took off toward I-90. The pursuit was called off as it left the City of Albany.
The pickup truck continued east on 90 and was observed by a trooper in the Town of East Greenbush who also attempted to pull it over. The trooper ended the pursuit after about a mile, and shortly after the pickup truck crashed near Exit 10.
Vergura was taken into custody by State Police and charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance and driving while intoxicated. He was later turned over to Albany police who charged him with first-degree reckless endangerment and unlawfully fleeing a police officer.
