Winter is supposed to be cold - but this cold? We've been lucky, as last January never saw temperatures below zero. This year, we're making up for it, with no warming up in the forecast for at least a few days. Our Erin Vannella talked to those who make a full time job of beating the cold.

ALBANY, N.Y. -- Jarmaine Payne sways to R&B on Central Avenue on the coldest January day in years.

“Secret is, you've gotta have layers, lots and lots of layers, couple scarves, gloves, other than that, hand warmers,” said Jarmaine Payne, Liberty Tax Service.

It's the only way he says he and his fellow outdoor workers can shiver through the cold.

“You just gotta keep moving, keep your body warm,” said Payne.

Zach Crossett has a sunny enough outlook to say it's not too bad out: temperatures in the teens, wind-chill of three, nighttime drop to negative 20s…while pumping gas!

“Could be a lot worse, at least it's a job,” said Crossett, who works at a gas station.

What he didn't mention is he's layered too. Frostbite, hypothermia, windburn are very real and really worth avoiding after all, just ask Alan Dotson.

“Well I dress for the weather,” said Alan Dotson, Albany Business Improvement District Clean Team.

Again with the layers. Alan sweeps streets from Colonie to Albany and never trades his smile for the winter blues. Like Zach back at the gas pump, he says the weather won't get him down. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
