As counties throughout the Hudson Valley recover and clean up from the massive storm, one local Department of Public Works is reminding people of the steps they need to take to ensure the process continues to run smoothly. Our Eva McKend has more from Middletown.

MIDDLETOWN, N.Y. -- Some say we survived the worst of the storm. But for others, the headaches were just beginning Saturday.

"It's a lot of work. A lot of snow," said Middletown resident Steven Brown.

"This is definitely the most snow we've gotten. I've been to Port Jervis, Middletown, Goshen and it doesn't to seem to be getting any thinner," said Rich Sanders.

There were varying amounts of snow throughout the Hudson Valley with many towns in Orange County having been inundated with more than twelve inches. During the clean up, the Middletown Department of Public Works faced one very particular challenge.

"To try to minimize the usage of salt because we have scarce resources and because of the budget and trying to save money. We can't just keep dumping salt on the streets," said Middletown Department of Public Works Commissioner Jacob Tawil.

The DPW is asking for the public's help to not erase the progress cleanup crews have made.

"We urge the people not to throw the snow and ice back on the road and to clean up their cars before they start driving them around because it's dangerous," added Tawil.

As people across the Hudson Valley continue to dig out in the aftermath of the storm, there is good news on the horizon: Weather conditions are expected to improve in the days ahead. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
