TROY, N.Y. -- Kenyanna Bradley was the first to face Judge Patrick McGrath on Wednesday. She and two other teens faced him for a number of charges in the stabbing death of Takim Smith, 21, back on February 4th.
"One count of murder in the second degree," said Judge McGrath as he listed the charges against her. Bradley had originally just been charged with conspiracy, but a grand jury increasing those charges to murder, as well as two counts of robbery in the first, one count of robbery in the second, three counts of conspiracy in the fourth, and one count of criminal possession of a weapon.
The same eight charges were filed against Ravenal Dunbar, 17, and Keith Ferguson, 17. Ferguson's family came to court on Wednesday. They say he's innocent, and was at the wrong place at the wrong time.
"His family's distraught," said Ferguson's attorney, Lee Kindlon. "Keith's never been in trouble before, was snatched out of his home and has been in jail instead of his high school senior classes."
Dunbar's attorney defended his client, as well.
"He didn't stab anyone," said Robert Knightly. "And it remains to be seen what if anything he did do in this case."
Rensselaer County District Attorney Richard McNally said, "As to whether or not there was one person that did the actual stabbing, that seems to be what the evidence shows, but we believe, as the indictment reflects, all individuals were aware what was going on."
The others authorities say were involved: Mariyah Zeigler, 16, Davonte McGill, 18, and Eric Mallard, 19. They also face murder, robbery, conspiracy, and criminal possession of a weapon charges.
Mallard is the last to be arraigned this Thursday.
